Past Experience
Prior to forming MEC, Ms. McKim worked extensively with federal and local governments as well as private companies. Her most recent project was to consult with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) on their Response to Hurricane Katrina. Ms. McKim was in a position as part of the “Environmental Unit” of the Incident Command Structure to advise EPA and LDEQ personnel on the technical matters of the environmental assessment for the flood impacted areas of Louisiana, including New Orleans and surrounding parishes. In addition to the environmental assessments, the Environmental Unit authored all of the sampling, monitoring, response, and data acquisition and management plans related to household hazardous waste collection, spills, demolition activities, and helped train and oversee personnel assigned to implement these plans.
Ms. McKim has worked professionally with local municipalities to design wastewater treatment projects to fulfill the needs of upgrading to nutrient removal standards and/or to increase treatment capacities to accommodate growth. While working with Maryland and other Chesapeake area municipalities to upgrade and/or expand their wastewater treatment practices, Ms. McKim gained experience in the processes and methods for removing nutrients from the wastewater streams in order to reduce the nutrient loading on the receiving water bodies. This experience will be directly applicable as agricultural communities or individual farmers work to reduce their nutrient contribution to the Bay.
Ms. McKim has extensive experience in working with state and federal agencies to assess, investigate and remediate sites contaminated with compounds including oil and gas, volatile and semivolatile organic compounds, metals, and radioactive elements. Specific tasks have included:
- project planning
- conducting field surveys
- sampling activities
- design, construction, and operations of treatment facilities to treat contaminants in air, water and soil.
